As householders, we have a ‘duty of care’ to make sure we have taken reasonable steps to dispose of rubbish legally. We must be certain that we are handing over our rubbish to an authorised and licensed company. This is someone with a valid waste carriers licence to transport and dispose of it safely. There are some exceptions such as charities etc. are exempt to the requirement of a licence. A record of this, a waste transfer note, must be held by the licensed carrier for two years.
If you give your waste to an unlicensed operator, it may end up being fly-tipped. If this happens you will be held responsible and could end up with action being taken against you.
